First Day Out with Nikon Coolpix P1000 at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

This was my first trip out with my new Nikon Coolpix P1000. I hadn’t read the instruction manual and since delivery, all I’d done was charge up the battery. In any case it was off to Yorkshire Wildlife Park to test out the camera.

Operation seemed easy enough. The camera is on the weighty side but it didn’t cause any undue problems. I’d found out how to set video recording to 4k and photos to fine quality. At this stage I wasn’t looking to record raw images as I wanted to see how images looked straight out of the camera.

The first few tries were all stills to get a feel for the camera before I tried any video.

I had the camera set on auto to see how it performed. I found that when videoing and zooming in at the same time the camera lost focus. Later on, I got around this issue by manually focusing when zooming.

I tested out a few stills at 3000mm – like the painted dogs. All the stills and video were handheld.

I was pleased with the results. Once I’ve read the instructions I’m sure I’ll sort out the focusing issue.

I need to find out how to set the camera into burst mode.

In the end, I was very pleased with the results, especially some of the still images at 3000mm.

More practice and a skim through the instructions is required.

The video was edited using LumaFusion on my iPad and no image manipulation was done on either the stills or video other than trimming the start and end points of video recordings.
