Foreigners Witnessing BLOODY "PENITENSYA" 2018 Holy Week | PHILIPPINES🇵🇭

Penitensya, the Filipino term for Penance, is a tradition being held by the Filipinos during Holy Week, specially on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The word Penance derives from Old French and Latin poenitentia, meaning repentance, the desire to be forgiven.

In a country where Roman Catholics make up 81 percent of the population, it is no surprise that Filipinos have numerous traditional events during Holy Week. I went to Pampanga to witness these “penitensya” or self-flagellations and crucifixions.
