Master Madam (Pratik Gandhi, Jay Upadhyay)

You can’t call it religion, and you can’t call it prostitution. Better call it ‘Master Madam’.

Master Madam (also known as Bhagavadajjukam) is the oldest surviving Indian comedy. Though little is known about its origins or authorship, although a work of this name is first mentioned in a South Indian inscription of 610 AD. Since the early 17th Century, the play has been preserved in the repertoire of the South Indian Kuttiyattam theatre, where it was originally embedded in a ritualized production lasting 35 days. Some commentators attribute it to an otherwise unknown playwright called Bodhayana.
