607 Brake service

Servicing the brakes on a 2002 Peugeot 607

This car had woeful brakes when i got it, the front wheels were juddering when the car braked. The actual braking effort was very low and it took quite some time to bring the car to a stop.

I could see through the spokes of the alloys that the front disks were not in great shape, so bought new disks and pads. While changing them i realised the slide pins on the callipers were sticky and in the case of some seized in place. On the drivers side it was enough to remove the pins and clean them, but on the passenger side i had to buy new slide pins.

I bought the pins from:
http://brakeparts.co.uk/#!/
They are a very good source for brake parts, i found them when looking to rebuild the callipers for the 305 and they seem to stock parts for more modern cars.

By chance i looked at the rear callipers which also needed attention, these callipers are the same as those used on the 406, i can say that as i have 406 callipers lying about and one of the slide pin kits was a 406 one i had lying about. The only real difference between the 607 and 406 is the rear suspension layout of the 607 means reaching the lower calliper bolt is very difficult.

Other than that these are easy brakes to service, the brakes are now very good on the 607, it passed its MOT test and i have been daily driving it since.
