Summary Review: NordicTrack s22i vs Peloton Bike
The NordicTrack S22i and Peloton Bike are two of the top selling indoor exercise bikes on the market. Each offers a comfortable ride and engaging content. However, there are some differences.
The NordicTrack s22i has automated incline and decline built into the bike. A motor under the frame lifts and tilts the bike to match the incline or decline of actual terrain. This increases your training variables and also makes rides feel more realistic. The automated feature makes it so you can ride hands-free; the bike will automatically adjust both incline and resistance for you (automated control can be overridden at any time.) A 22” screen attached to the front of the bike showcases iFit indoor classes and outdoor rides all over the world. These are led by personal trainers who guide you along the trail or workout. iFit has constantly updated classes and content and it incorporates a Leaderboard into both classes and outdoor routes. There are no live classes, though. The s22i also has touch button controls on the handlebars so you can incline/decline or adjust resistance as needed. There is also a fan mounted under the screen. The s22i uses magnetic resistance so it is practically silent and doesn’t take up much space in your home. The bike weighs around 200lbs and has a 350lb weight capacity. The s22i has flat pedals with cages that will hold any athletic shoe.
The Peloton Bike is a highly popular exercise bike that also has a 22” screen attached. External wiring that drapes down the back of the screen and attaches to the handlebar stem is a minor concern, but overall the design and functionality of the bike is chic and comfortable. The screen is very clear and we love the engaging content! Peloton only offers studio classes, there are no outdoor routes. Also, there is no incline or decline on the bike; it has a fixed frame that does not move. Peloton does not have automated controls, so you must adjust the tension on your bike manually. However, the classes and instructors are fun and Peloton has a deep community of devoted followers who interact both on and off the bike. Peloton does include live classes that you can sign up for beforehand, so you really feel like you are part of the class. Shout-outs, High-Fives, the Leaderboard and other interactive features make Peloton engaging. The Peloton bike also uses magnetic resistance so it is also silent when pedaling. There is no fan in the console. The bike itself weighs about 135lbs and will support 305lb user weight. Peloton uses Delta LOOK pedals that require a specific cycling shoe and cleat; the pedals will not work with a standard athletic shoe. We love that you can sync your Bluetooth headphones to the Peloton app so you can listen and ride without disturbing those around you; NordicTrack has not yet incorporated this feature.
Both bikes offer some great features. We give a slight edge to the NordicTrack s22i for enhanced functionality, incline/decline, and automated controls. We also love the outdoor routes. But Peloton has a wide community of followers and users who love to ride and interact with each other. There are plenty of benefits to either bike!
