The Book of Boba Fett finale just gave Star Wars fans a whole lotta Easter Eggs and a lotta action with everyone thrown into the mix. We saw Boba Fett riding a rancor, the Mods, the freetown people, angry wookie Black Krrsstan, Fennec Shand being scary good at her job, and best of all–The Mandalorian Din Djarin reunited with Grogu!

It turns out that Grogu chose the beskar armor over the lightsaber, walking away for the Jedi path, and maybe dooming Luke’s new Jedi order to fail. The episode also contained numerous references to the Godfather and other classic gangster movies, and had callbacks to nearly eerie Star wars film, including A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, the Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, Solo, rebels and the Clone Wars. Plus there was just a little world building to lay the groundwork for the Force Awakens.

Also, Boba Fett was in the episode too!

20:22 Why This Show Makes Me Anxious

The episode brought all of the reason’s dangling plot threads together, including Black Kerstan, Din Djarin, the Rancor, the mods, Freetown, and even Grogu’s new jedi skills had a chance to be adorable.

The title of the episode, in the name of honor, reflects the reason why everyone is fighting. The people fighting for the Pykes were bought by the Pykes. But the people fighting for Boba choose to be with him, for their homes, like Freetown, for Loyalty, like Fennec shand, or for honor, like Din, for his creed.

All season long, we were asking why Boba Fett wants to be a crime lord. And this episode gave our answer–to have a family. It’s not that he wants to be a crime lord. He recognizes the value of having a tribe.

So the real Book of Boba fett was the friends we made along the way.

So let’s get into the easter eggs, beginning with all the tropes the show has taken from gangster movies. Jabba the Hutt was originally intended to be a kind of grotesque version of Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone. Or, more like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now.

Bombing an establishment owned by a rival gang is an old gangster trope. And, so is debating whether or not to sell drugs on the street. Because if you sell spice, the next thing you know the death stick dealers show up and your neighborhood goes to hell.

So, if you need to know which gangsters are good or bad, the ones who don’t sell drugs are good. The Pykes, on the other hand, have built their organization on the trade of spice, like we’ve seen in the Clone Wars and Solo, where they operated the spice mines of Kessel.

The entire season seems to be mimicking the structure of the godfather part 2, cutting to flashbacks constantly. As I went over in this video, I don;t think the structure worked, check that out if you want to know why. Now the end of this episode also mimics the godfather part 2. Boba receives fruit from the townspeople, just like Don Fanucci.

And, that fruit Boba receives is called a melrun, which we saw in Star Wars Rebels.

When the trandoshans turned on Kerstan, it was very reminiscent of the death of Sonny Corleone in the godfather. And just this sequence of the betrayals is like the ending to all godfather films, when Michael slowly eliminates all of his enemies.

The aqualish also turns on the mods. The mods, but the way are named and designed after the english mod culture in the 0s–even the mirror on their bikes are a nod to this.

And the klatooinian turning on the gmoreans guards is suuuuper lame. They just back them up. Come on! The Gamorreans can fight! We saw it in episode 1!

Cad bane Explained

When Boba wants to retreat to his fortress, Mod number 2 disagrees. Which makes for a way more interesting episode, and earns the loyalty of the people of Mos Espa.

And then cad bane rolls into town. If you haven't seen the Clone Wars animated series, then you might be wondering who the heck this guy is. Basically, ‘he’s been the baddest bounty hunter in the galaxy for like 30 years at this point. His facem duster, and hat are designed to mimic the look of Lee Van Cleef in Sergio Leone's spaghetti western trilogy.
