Not only will you learn how to make challah bread but you will also learn tips, tricks and hacks to make this easy challah bread recipe foolproof.

Because I know you do not want to do like everyone else ( doing a 6 strands challah or 4 strands challah) and you only want the best: I have also included how to braid challah to make the most beautiful braiding challah 12 strands

PS if you are not familiar with Challah, here is a little history of the challah bread

Challah means "the best" ( see in Bereshit/Genesis, when G.od refers to Adam as "challah" ) but the term was used over time as bread.
Challah is used for the 3 meals of shabbat ( Friday night, Shabbat lunch and for seudat shelishi aka the 3rd meal). the challah bread accompanies the salads, fish and cholent/dafina dependin of the meal!

There are different ways to make it , some will add eggs and honey/sugar to make is sweeter . Usually no milk is used in a challah when eaten with a meat meal as Jews we do not mix meat and milk together.

When there is some Challah left after shabbat, it will be used as the most delicious challah french toast : niiuummmm!

As per the braiding, Some commentaries say that the braiding of the challah bread specially the 3 braids challah is a reminder of the 3 groups within the Jews: the Israel, the Levi and the Cohen and by interlacing them it is a reminder that all jews should be united.
Such a great reminder!

RECIPE:

***MEASURING YOUR INGREDIENTS WILL YIELD MUCH MORE CONSISTENT RESULTS FOR YOUR HOMEMADE CHALLAH***invest in a good numeric scale: you can find them for 5-10$ at Walmart, on Amazon,... totally worth it!
For the recipe the quality of the flour and it’s content vary from flour to flour specially in bread flour hence if you are using bread flour make sure to use a 1/4 the water amount that you’re going to add at the end of the recipe to make sure that your dough will be nice and elastic and not too wet
otherwise you can always add a bit more flour

2kg/12,5 cups ( If you take the flour from your bag with a measuring cup) but 16cups if you do the spooning technique ) bread flour
40g/ 7tsp salt
30g /7 tsp sugar
6 eggs
330g/ 1.5 cups oil
390g /1.5 cups WARM water warm water is around 95*F

proof yeast:
30g /2 heaping tbsp dry yeast
15g/1 tbsp sugar
475g /400 ml WARM WATER ( see note above)

If you do a 4 strands challah strands= 150-200g
if you do a 7 strands challah strand =100g
if you do a 12 strands challah, each strands should be 90g

for this full recipe, you will be able to do one 12 strands challah, one 7 strands challah and 2 4 strands challah plus one small 3 strands challah
