A Chinese Shoe Factory In Ethiopia: 360-Degree Video | Los Angeles Times

At China-based Huajian Shoe Company’s factory in Addis Ababa, thousands of employees — all of them Ethiopian — work long days gluing, inspecting, and boxing women’s shoes, all of them bound for the U.S. market. Chinese manufacturers, already squeezed by rising prices at home, have in recent years been gradually moving their operations to Bangladesh, Vietnam, Malaysia — and increasingly, Africa. For the cost of one Chinese worker, the company can hire five Ethiopians. It plans to employ 50,000 within eight years.
