🏃🏽♂️Running VS Walking For Fat Loss (SCIENCE)
What burns more calories, walking 1 mile or running for a mile (1.6km)?
A study by the California State University investigated this and found that walking 1 mile took the participants about 20 minutes while burning 65 calories. Running 1 mile, on the other hand, took 10 minutes and burned 100 calories. So running 1 mile took less time and burned more calories compared to walking.
With that said, I am still a big fan of walking over running for many of my clients because it’s simple. Going for a relaxed outside walk or simply increasing step-count is more practical for most people than planning deliberate runs.
A classic 2017 study found that walking an extra 25 minutes per day helps boost fat loss progress by 20% over a 12-week period. So even though running may burn more calories, you can still give your fat loss progress a great boost by incorporating regular walks.
