10 Countries Help India by Sending Oxygen Tanks

Over the last two weeks, India has recorded nearly 38 lakh new cases. These two weeks have seen the country struggle to cope up with the sudden increase in demand for oxygen. Even though there is adequate oxygen production in India, the central government and state governments are not coordinating properly which is why there is a severe shortage. Hospitals are struggling to treat breathless patients as they do not have oxygen supply. Hospitals, doctors, family members, etc are posting on social media and asking if anyone has oxygen. The Delhi High Court on Saturday 24th April said it would “hang” any official found obstructing the pick-up or supply of oxygen. 

Various countries have reached out to send supplies. Here’s what each country is doing to help India: 

1. United Kingdom: 

The United Kingdom has announced that it will ship over “600 pieces of vital medical equipment” to help India fight COVID-19. This shipment will include 495, Oxygen Concentrators, 120 Non-Invasive Ventilators, and 20 Manual Ventilators.  

2. USA: 
The US will send India RT-PCR kits, ventilators and PPE suits. The USA has also sent the first batch of 318 oxygen concentrators and it has already reached India. 

3. Singapore: 
Singapore has donated four Cryogenic Oxygen Tanks to India. They have been airlifted by the Indian Air Force. 

4. Australia: 
Australia has announced that it will send oxygen, ventilators and personal protective equipment (PPE) kits to India. 

5. Saudi Arabia 
Saudi Arabia is shipping 80 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen to India. 

 6. UAE
India is in talks with the United Arab Emirates to airlift high-capacity oxygen tankers from the UAE. 

7. Russia: 
Russia is planning to send COVID-19 assistance including oxygen concentrators, generators, and drugs needed to treat coronavirus. They also announced that it would send 3,00,000-4,00,000 units of Remdesivir injection – an important drug that is currently in shortage across India. 
But it has run into legal issues with US-based pharma company Gilead Sciences, so India might not get the injections until the issue is resolved.

8. China: 
China has announced that it would provide support and help based on India’s needs, and talks are ongoing between the two countries about this. 

9. France   10. Germany 
French President Emmanuel Macron & German chancellor Angela Merkel have both announced to help India but further details on the matter are not available yet.
