Anxiety as Fuel for Artistic Creativity | Sharon Dowell | TEDxCharlotte
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Sharon shares her perspective as an artist and how anxiety affects her and her artistic process.

Sharon Dowell is a painter, public art commissioned artist, and Rowe Galleries Coordinator and Adjunct Professor at UNC Charlotte. She exhibits nationally and her work is in the collections of The Federal Reserve Bank, SPX, Renaissance Hotel, Ritz Carlton, Pricewaterhousecoopers, Fidelity Investments, and Duke Energy, among others. She kicked off her public art career in 2008 with a mural through The Arts and Science Council and in 2013, murals for The City of Concord, NC. Currently she is underway on a CATS Transit Blue Line light rail extension station and bus shelters for Durham’s Bull City Connector bus line. Her residencies include The McColl Center for Visual Art, Tyrone Guthrie Center in Ireland, NES in Iceland and the Julia and David White Colony in Costa Rica. Dowell received two ASC Regional Artist Project Grants and was voted Best Artist by Charlotte Magazine in 2012. Heavily involved in the arts community in Charlotte, she also sits on the McColl Center for Visual Art Exhibition Committee and the Wall Poems Advisory Board. Dowell is currently studying for a Masters in Arts Administration at Winthrop University and graduated with a BFA from UNC Charlotte in 2002.
