Tetris Effect Connected: 25 Zone Lines (World Record)

In this video, I clear 25 Zone Lines in Tetris Effect: Connected. This uses very similar, yet harder, strategies to the previous 24-line clear I did.

Periods between pauses have been cut out or sped up.

The main thing that makes this harder is that while a simple J/L well up to 24 allows pieces to rotate out of it's top, the same well up to 25 does not. This posed a problem. Initially, I thought the only way to solve this was to place an I last-minute near the top, at the part of the J/L well that only went up to 23. However, especially without using bump up, this setup was extremely rare.

Thankfully, Wabice suggested an alternate strategy consisting of using a J/L overhang followed by finishing with an S or Z. This would allow pieces to spin into rows 22 and 23 inside the overhang. Some pieces required a small soft drop, but this was doable now. Additionally, I noticed that a similar strategy was possible with a T finish.

I started trying to implement this strategy, but it did pose difficulty in that the zone must be timed very well. All giant pieces must be out before the zone begins, but in addition the J/L overhang cannot be placed until during zone, as otherwise it will cascade. To make things worse, over time I realized that the only consistent way to activate zone was to use the giant I, as there are too many big pieces to activate zone by comboing the 2-wide. This made the set of pieces that would produce a viable solve extremely restricted.

I did realize a way I could partially combat this problem. Previously, I checked 3 possible placements of solutions, one with 1 line cleared, one with 3, and one with 5. (7 lines would activate zone.) I realized that by replacing four small pieces with one giant piece, you could create 9 possible solutions instead, each number of lines now having 0-2 extra giant pieces. (3 extra giant pieces would risk having the boss attack too much and send other blitzes.) While even with these 9 chances things still weren't consistent, doing all this plus checking both the SZ and T solutions gave a lot greater of a chance to find a successful plan. Additionally, the more I played, I noticed more ways that these extra pieces could help increase the chances of a solve succeeding.

During the final week of the TE:C crossplay beta, Enhance opened up Connected VS during all days of the week for testing. This allowed me to put a lot more attempts into this, which helped me improve a lot faster. I think this was my 11th attempt this week (only counting attempts that found a proper RNG sequence from the preknowledge) after 10 failed ones. I did need to use slightly different strats from previously due to the removal of Defense, but this was a fairly simple change: Gain preknowledge from the yellow player with the other three controllers linked, and then later on, swap the boss player to a new controller. Nerf -2 plus an extra double after preknowledge was used to give the perfect amount of zone charge.

The next step, 26tris, may not be practical. I see no way to avoid using bump up, which will add a huge factor of randomness, and even assuming this it seems very tricky to find a working setup. The main reason for this is that the big I pieces spawn off-center and thus cannot be spawned inside a big 2-wide, and of course in any pure 2-wide like this no pieces could be rotated. I have a few ideas, but they all seem pretty difficult. If this is even feasible, it will probably be harder than Journey mode 23-tris.
