Following the death of the Rev. W. Awdry and the fifth series of Thomas & Friends, Britt Allcroft went on to work on a theatrical movie which is poorly criticised upon its release. Britt steps down from her position as the company deputy chairperson and her production company is reorganised to become ‘Gullane Entertainment’.

HiT Entertainment brought the rights to Thomas from Gullane in September 2002 and went on to produce their own take on the show with the eighth series in 2003. HiT succeeds in bringing Thomas back to American television on PBS in 2004, and refurbished the show with further changes including episode length, musicians, producers and storytellers.

The little blue tank engine has been captivating audiences for over 70 years through books, television series, films, interactive media, and a large variety of toys. From a television series airing in 161 territories in 57 languages and merchandise selling one engine per second, Thomas proves he is still the number one preschool brand. This year, Thomas travels around the world on new adventures in the updated series Thomas and Friends Big World Big Adventures! Steaming To Legacy is a web documentary covering the incredible history of Thomas the Tank Engine and the impact the stories and characters have made. The series features many in depth interviews, little known facts, and a detailed timeline of the creative developments made within the book series, television series, movies, and specials. In addition, the web documentary also features sub-stories of similar children’s shows including TUGS and Shining Time Station.
