Hero to Zero - Glider Gets Shot Down

In gliding, things can be going great one minute and you are on the ground wondering what just happened 10 minutes later - that is part of the thrill of flying a sailplane. You are never sure if you can make it back home and that is OK! In this flight everything was going great till it wasn't. I was right on track to breaking a state record flying pretty well and then I encountered an area of clouds and rain that I just could not get through and since the sailplane (glider) is always sinking, I found myself getting lower and lower until I had to put the wheel down and land. This ultimately was not a failure because I did not hurt myself or damage the sailplane. It was a great learning lesson to stop while there is still some lift before you enter into an area of shadows, rain and different looking clouds. Lesson well learned! The record will still be there waiting for me to try again. The glider is an ASW27 high performance 15 meter sailplane and I am flying out of Nephi, Utah. Fun stuff and thanks for watching and for your comments. Bruno - B4
