Ostdeutschland war miltärisch bis zur Wende waffentechnisch hochgerüstet. Es gab zahlreiche Miltärflugplätze, von denen modernste Jets beispielsweise zur Überwachung der Luftkorridore von und nach Berlin aufstiegen.
