👑KING👑 of the COMPOSTABLE cases? - Urban Armor Gear Outback Review for the iPhone 11

I will be honest with you. The UAG Outback is slowly becoming one of my favourite cases.

Why? Because it’s a no-nonsense, thin, well-handling case. My only gripe with the case is that it takes on colors a little too easily.

So don’t get this orange one.

This Outback is supposedly compostable which might be the cherry on top of a great case sundae. Honestly, leave it up to an actual case company to come up with a good compostable case.

At MREH, Monty and I base our videos on actual usage. This is actual the start of another sub-series on our channel with the focus on compostable cases or cases that are supposedly more environmentally friendly.

And yes, at the end of this sub-series, Monty’s going to dig a hole and we’re going to bury them all to see what happens to them.

The UAG Outback is the second compostable case that I got after the Pela case. I was expecting the case to be as limp as the Pela case but it’s not.

Which means its going to offer your iPhone better protection.

BUT It’s not solid like some of UAG’s other cases.

What is the case made from? In short, plant-based plastics. According to UAG, it’s made from a combination of PLA and PBAT and Bamboo Fiber Composite. Polyatic Acid is what provides the rigidity, the Polybutylene adipate terephthalate is what provides the flexibility and the I don’t know what the Bamboo Fiber Composite is. At the end of the day, it’s still plastic.

Despite all the marketing fluff, the seams on this case aren’t terribly clean and there is a weird divit in the middle of the port cutout.

The case isn’t going to slide around easily on the front or the back. The Outback has large corners and an extreme taper along the edges. This taper is awesome as it makes this fairly slim case even slimmer.

I’m not kidding when I say extreme taper. It’s easy to see the ones right along the sides of the case but can you see the taper along the back between the top and bottom of the case?

The top and bottom of the case is about 12.3mm where the middle of the case is 10.6mm. That’s thinner than the Mous Contour, which has a similar taper. BUT it doesn’t have the same rigidity.

Wear and Tear may be an issue for this case as the bright orange color is going to collect dark colors over time. There is a sticker on the inside of the case telling you to wash the case down with soap and water. The rub mark from my darkest pair of jeans doesn’t look like it will come off easily.

The case will show a bit of scuffling after a drop as well as you can see and after my testing period, the back of the case shows a few scuffs here and there.

The Outback has a slight matte finish to it that adds to the handling of the device. The texture of this case isn’t as aggressive as other compostable cases with their rubbery finishes.

I had no issues accessing my iPhone in the case. In fact, I’m quite fond of the buttons on the case. They’re quite large, in fact, they’re probably the largest buttons I’ve seen on an iPhone case. The design of the buttons just make them very easy to find on the case.

One-handed usage is just top notch with the gigantic iPhone 11 Pro BECAUSE OF THOSE EDGES.

So what’s the UAG Outback going to be like in terms of protection? The larger case corners aren’t terribly tight though they are better than the Pela’s and the camera’s have a lip around them.

UAG claims that it will provide military grade drop protection. But they don’t specify a height so I’m going to say 4ft. That’s the minimum height for MilStd 810G for iPhone’s. Am I short changing the drop protection? I don’t think as the case edge is quite thin when compared to UAG’s entire lineup.

BUT let’s see if all the random drops Val’s going to do results in me breaking another screen protector!
