How to Replace the Evaporator Fan Motor in a Whirlpool Refrigerator

This repair applies to several makes and models, including Whirlpool, Maytag, and Sears Kenmore refrigerators. In my case, it's a Whirlpool Model GI6SDRXXB02.
Symptons included ice build up and inefficient cooling. The fridge was too cold, or not cold enough. The freezer was not cold enough, and the ice cream was mush! The ice maker worked erratically.
After diagnosing a faulty evaporator fan motor, I'll show you how to replace it. An easy DIY project. But surprise! The new fan didn't work either, though it tested just fine. I discovered another problem, and I'll show you how to fix that too...replacing a burnt out resistor in the line feeding voltage to the fan motor. A big shout out to Rick at applianceblog.com for his invaluable assistance and coaching though this second problem.
