Herbie Hancock is a critically acclaimed pianist and composer. An icon of jazz and R&B he has won 12 GRAMMY Awards, including the 2007 Album Of The Year. In 1963,he joined Miles Davis's "second great quintet," regarded as one of the finest Jazz ensembles of all time.
In 2006, Corrine Bailey Rae launched onto the music scene with her self-titled debut album, garnering worldwide acclaim and multiple GRAMMY and BRIT Award nominations. The album made it into the Billboard Top 20 in the U.S. — with Bailey Rae the first British female singer-songwriter to do so in decades.
"In Performance at the White House - Celebrating the Music of Paul McCartney" is a concert hosted by President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in the East Room of the White House on June 2, 2010, to honor Paul McCartney with the 3rd Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress. Artists from all genres and backgrounds joined the President and First Lady to honor Paul McCartney, including Stevie Wonder, the Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill, Emmylou Harris, Lang Lang, Herbie Hancock, Elvis Costello, Jack White, Corinne Bailey Rae, David Grohl, and Jerry Seinfeld.
The prize commemorates George and Ira Gershwin, the legendary American songwriting team whose extensive manuscript collections reside in the Library of Congress. The prize is awarded to musicians whose lifetime contributions in the field of popular song exemplify the standard of excellence associated with the Gershwins.
Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE is an English musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer. With John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, he gained worldwide fame as a member of the Beatles; his songwriting partnership with Lennon is one of the most celebrated of the 20th century.
"In Performance at the White House" is a series of musical events created to showcase the rich fabric of American culture in the setting of the nation's most famous home.
