Three Ways Yoga will not Change the World…and One Way it Might | Colin Hall | TEDxRPLCentralLibrary

In our age of alternative facts, nationalism, and militarisation, the world needs clarity, inclusiveness and justice. Yoga is a cultural force that promotes those values. Unfortunately, there are ways in which yoga is being practiced today that contribute to a self-righteous and delusional worldview that does nothing to change the world for the better. In this talk, Colin shares the ways yoga is not going to save the world, but also, how it can help.

Lecturer in Religious Studies, Kinesiology and Sociology at the University of Regina and Luther College, Colin Hall has been teaching and studying yoga for over 15 years. He is the co-director of Bodhi Tree Yoga, where he and his wife Sarah built a thriving yoga community in Regina, SK. Colin started practicing yoga in the late 1990’s and continues to learn from his original teacher, David McAmmond. Colin provides workshops and teacher trainings on asana and yoga philosophy in addition to leading yoga tour groups to India. With his background in Religious Studies, Colin studies and teaches a fully integrated approach to yoga that incorporates biomechanics, psychology, philosophy, and storytelling. His classes and writings are funny, challenging explorations into the depths of the body and mind. He has been published in Om Yoga Magazine, Elephant Journal, Rebelle Society, and is a regular contributor for Yoga International.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
