DRZ Manual Petcock // Installation Video

If you have a DRZ400 most likely you have the vacuum operated petcock that will leak fuel right into your carb, then into your engine, and finally engine OIL. Then you'll be racing around your bike with contaminated oil that's prematurely wearing out your bearings. All because of that leaky stock valve!!
I took mine off like MANY others have and replaced it with a Yamaha one that was made for a Quad.
I had to buy a 90 degree, brass, 1/8npt, with a 5/16 barb on one end. This works PERFECT!! It misses everything and fits great! The 8mm fuel hose that my FCR39 carb uses fits on the 5/16(7,93mm) barb perfect, the 1/8npt is also the right size (little drilling required) to tap into the petcock housing and is not too big (you still need to be careful about the cast aluminum body that the npt threads into. if you over tighten this im sure it'll crack and give away).
Now I can turn OFF my fuel and KNOW its not contaminating my oil by leaking in the cylinder!

Theres a ton of threads on how to do this, they're all a little different. You can do a google or thumper talk search and you'll get all the info you need!

My friends DRZ400SM only had about 1,500miles on it and was only 2 years old (stock carb). The stock petcock was already leaking and also the needle and seat in the carb has an O-ring around the seat, sealing to the carburetor body. That O-ring was dried up and nasty looking! Since that O-ring was dried up and cracked, it allowed fuel to bypass the seat and leak past the O-ring filling up the carb and COMPLETLY filling up the cylinder and intake causing it to leak out of the air boot drain!!! This happend a few times before we knew what was going on. They were both failing, the petcock and seat O-ring in the carb. We replaced them both and has been good since!! Please replace BOTH of these parts!!!
