When Inflight Refueling Goes Wrong
A VF-124 F-14A Tomcat rips the basket away from a U.S. Air Force KC-10 when the takeup reel that controls how the hose translates in and out fails. As a result, when the Tomcat plugged into the drogue, it caused a sine wave that separated the basket from the hose. Once the Tomcat got out of the way (with the basket still on the probe), the tanker crew cut the hose away. (Look out below!)
