DIY - How to use the Fingertip Pulse Oximeter (CONTEC)

Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is the fraction of oxygen-saturated hemoglobin in the blood with respect to total hemoglobin (unsaturated + saturated). The human body needs a precise and specific regulated balance of oxygen in the blood. Normal SpO2 levels in humans range between 95-100%. Levels below 90% are considered low and may result in Hypoxemia. On the other hand, levels below 80% may compromise organ function (such as that of brain or heart), and should be punctually addressed. Continued low levels may lead to cardiac or respiratory arrest. Therefore, it is very important to monitor the SpO2 level in the blood of some patients so that doctors can find and address health problems in a prompt manner. Oxygen therapy may be prescribed by doctors to assist patients in raising low SpO2 levels.
Normal pulse rate (PR) for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats a minute (bpm). High or low PR may indicate an underlying health problem. If the resting heart rate is consistently above 100bpm (tachycardia) or below 60bpm (bradycardia) and there are other signs or symptoms (fainting, dizziness or shortness of breath), doctor must be consulted.
