The lightsaber was a fearsome weapon in the hands of a force user, but it did have one major disadvantage compared to blasters, the inability to combat opponents at a distance. However, the ancient Jedi had clearly sought to rectify this issue by developing the lightsaber rifle. Similar to the death star, this rifle focused and amplified energy through a kyber crystal, producing a devastating blast of energy. This rifle was used by the Jedi Librarian, Jocasta Nu against Darth Vader shortly after Order 66. However, the rifle had a major drawback, it used lightsabers as ammunition, melting them after only a few shots. So while it was very powerful, it was also not a very practical weapon.
