The Crown You Never Take Off | Lissarette Nisnevich | TEDxBinghamtonUniversity
Who defines beauty standards in the modern world? Is it the individual, the people around them, or society at large? Lissarette Nisnevich’s experience as a world traveler and early childhood education professional gives her new insight to challenge each of these assumptions and propose a solution: a culture that empowers every individual to be the best version of themselves. Her focus? The crown on top of a woman’s head, that one thing she can never take off: her hair.
Lissarette Nisnevich was born and raised in the Dominican Republic with a full bilingual education. She started her career as an assistant teacher at the age of 15. Over the years she was blessed with opportunities to travel the world teaching English as a Second Language, designing curriculums and doing volunteer work in local communities. These opportunities not only helped her enrich her understanding of the world, but also widened her horizons as an educator.
With over a decade of experience in 30+ countries, and a master’s degree in early childhood education, Nisnevich chose to open a daycare center and a preschool of her own right after settling down in New York to start a family. As a director, she tested her ability to plan, design and implement curriculums in different regions of the world. She passionately loves her work and wishes to utilize her skills to educate her own son and help others in her community.
Prior to joining the education field, she worked as a performer, artist and model in TV, journals, radio as well as Broadway shows. Her journey in the entertainment industry began when she was only 3 years old, and eventually led to having her own TV show in the Dominican Republic when she turned 16. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
