Paul Klee was a Swiss artist, born in 1879. He was an intellectual painter and teacher influenced by Cubism, Expressionism and Surrealism. Klee taught at the famous Bauhaus from 1921-1931 with fellow artist Kandinsky. Klee was an accomplished musician and this influenced his work, he often played the violin to warm up before painting in his studio.
Klee challenged boundaries in art by using symbols, hieroglyphs, poetry and language. Like Picasso, he drew inspiration from the simplicity of children’s artwork. He often experimented with materials and processes, especially the application of paint.
The art activities in this unit focus on geometry, shape, colour and line. These elements will be explored through drawing, painting and construction.
