The Great Facades by Fenesta || Sanjay Puri

Built within a period of just 6 months, the Street in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh is an interesting hostel project developed by Sanjay Puri Architects, Mumbai. It is located in GLA University, on a wedge-shaped site surrounded by the buildings of repetitive characters. The Street stands out from other buildings because of its organic design which talks about the streets of India. The structure has pathways with north facing garden spaces and playground that adds character to each unit. While the north orientation of the units reduces heat gain and provides a view of the playground, its bay windows with colored soffits, which provide privacy and character to your room and blocks. The structure utilises bends and tappered sections to avoid similar views and every bend creates an open space that acts as a break out zone. In each of the buildings the perspective changes from ordinary and at no point there is a repetition of space. The project also has public facilities, like gym and mess with high volume capabilities that open out and looks towards the playground. For a speedy construction, only plaster and paint was used as a material on exteriors, while the interiors have been made with tile flooring and painted walls. Keeping color as a strong graphic element to defines spaces and lend character, watch how Sanjay Puri also sets an example of how a sensible design can make a building energy efficient just by orientation.
