Water Cooled 72,000 Lumen LED Flashlight!!
People wanting a big light for their car: light bars exist now, cheaply and reliably http://amzn.to/2noXgNe
Here's that neat 1150 lumen light: http://amzn.to/2xwQEUO
FAQ's!!!
Q: why are you only turning it on for short bursts?
A: The reason is just that I only had one night with the camera guy to get all the shots and I was paranoid of losing battery. The other reason is that it's so bright that it's annoying and I loose the ability to see at night
Q:Will it eventually overheat?
A: No, it can run off a power supply continuously with a stable coolant temperature.
Q: How long does the battery last?
A: The small battery back I'm using is made out of batteries I already had, and they will last 6 minutes. A bigger battery is easy
LED Chips: http://amzn.to/2uRv1Lu
LENSES: http://amzn.to/2mdrAJN
Resistors http://amzn.to/2iYhZIB
I recommend using Boost converters to drive the LED's from 12v or so (No resistors, one per chip, can also drive the cooling stuff with the same 12v): http://amzn.to/2mdkt3Q
Cooling Blocks: http://amzn.to/2lBbvkv
Tubing http://amzn.to/2i4Aw6y
Pump: http://amzn.to/2iYgryx
Super neat pump/reservoir combo (much easier than hacking a bottle and much less likely to leak..) http://amzn.to/2lHT4dt
Heat Exchanger: http://amzn.to/2j8efBx
Batteries (3) http://amzn.to/2xosKKP (connect in series for direct drive w/ resistors, connected in Parallel for 12v system with boost converters)
Super simple LiPo Charger: http://amzn.to/2meH7K3
**Don't over discharge your batteries! Research how to use LiPo batteries and monitor your cell voltage!! This product will monitor the cells and sound an alarm when they reach a low limit http://amzn.to/2lNiiYn
Thermal Glue http://amzn.to/2jxiDOg
SOLDERING STUFF!
Simple and cheap but probably not crap: http://amzn.to/2iKX5J2
Another Cheaper option: http://amzn.to/2iKZiE4
My Favorite Hakko High End Station: http://amzn.to/2jppFBo
60/40 Rosin Core Solder: http://amzn.to/2iKZiE4
(I do not reccomend lead free solder)
Extra Tube of Rosin is always nice: http://amzn.to/2k5vZRR
Desoldering Braid is good to have around: http://amzn.to/2jANdp3
Helping hands are also wonderful: http://amzn.to/2k5ucw8
Here's an Imgur album of pictures taken that night! http://imgur.com/a/dz4y8
Yes I would like to have used constant current drivers, but those would take up space and money that I don't have.
I made this back in February, but only got around to filming it a couple weeks ago. Thanks so much to Caleb Riston for the DSLR equipments and skills!
Thanks to ThruNite Flashlights for offering to send me a flashlight to use in this video! Any positive opinion of the flashlight is Caleb's or my honest opinion - but there is no way around the bias of free things.
