Senate Debates Objections to Certification of Election Results | LIVE | NowThis
SENATE DEBATES OBJECTION: The first objection to certification has been filed—for the state of Arizona—and senators have withdrawn from the House chambers to debate the objection in the Senate. Though Pres. Trump and his allies hope this objection will overturn the election, that is almost certainly not going to happen. Following debate, both the House and Senate will vote on the objection, whether to accept or reject the states’ electors for Biden. Given the Democratic majority in the House and the resistance from many Republican senators to support such an attempt to undermine our election, the Electoral College votes will likely be upheld.
This process of objection, deliberation, and holding a vote will repeat every time an objection to a state’s results are objected to in writing by both a member of the House and a member of the Senate. More than 150 Republicans in Congress have said they will participate in such obstruction and draw out a process that will again confirm that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn-in as President and Vice President of the United States on January 20.
