Why should you learn about algebra? | Mathematics | Hannah Fry| Head STEAM

We've all been there sitting in a maths classroom, wondering what the point of it all is. Well, Dr Hannah Fry, mathematician, is here to tell you why algebra matters.

00:20 Actually, when you have an algebraic term, you can use it to talk about almost anything.

00:52 For example, the equations of fluid dynamics -- which are so general that they apply equally well to the biggest hurricane as they do to a tiny drop of sweat. They're used by everyone from aeronautical engineers to oil workers.

01:30 Another example is Newton's second law, F, or force, equals mass times acceleration. Look at some of the ways NASA uses it here

02:02 When you do algebra, what you're really seeing is the important beginnings of the magnificent, majestic power of algebra.
