The Manuscript Writing Cafe in Tokyo, Japan, won’t let customers leave until they’ve finished their work. When people enter the 10-seat restaurant, they write down their names and work goals. To help patrons hit their targets, the cafe staff holds them accountable with “mild,” “normal” or “hard” progress checks. The cost? About $1.00 for the first 30 minutes and then the equivalent of around $2.30 for every hour afterwards.
