El Paso to consider halting incentives for data centers

Following rising community concerns regarding the potential strain on local utilities, El Paso City leaders might soon pump the brakes on bringing massive data centers to the Borderland.

During their meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, the El Paso City Council will consider a new policy that would stop the City from actively recruiting or incentivizing “hyperscale” data centers. The agenda item cites growing concerns that these massive facilities do not align with El Paso’s long-term goals for sustainability and infrastructure resilience.
