The Autism Diagnosis Debate Is Focusing on the Wrong Problem

TOPIC SUGGESTIONS: https://forms.gle/3eVVm9X5tbqYvgwo7

There’s growing momentum to split the autism diagnosis—but is that actually the solution people think it is?

As an SLP and late-diagnosed neurodivergent adult, I unpack:
- Why the conversation keeps centering the wrong barrier.
- How stigma around non-speaking autistic people shapes the debate.
- Why families of medically complex kids get left out.
- Why changing the diagnosis may not change access to care.

This is a trauma-informed, clinician-informed look at a debate that deserves more nuance.
