Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (Xbox Series X) (Xclusive Playthrough - Part 259) Lost History

Check out part 259 of my Xclusive Playthrough series featuring the game Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered! This game released on the Xbox One and Xbox Series family of consoles on April 22nd, 2025. It was developed by Virtuous Games & Bethesda Game Studios while being published by Bethesda Softworks.

In this video, I am tasked by S'Krivva of the Thieves Guild to recover a book entitled "Lost Histories of Tamriel".

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is an open world RPG that can be played in either first or third-person and it's the updated version of the beloved game from 2006. The game is set in Cyrodiil, which is a province of Tamriel, the continent within which all of the Elder Scrolls game take place in. The game starts off with the player creating their own character from a selection of various races that are a staple of the Elder Scrolls games such as Imperial, Nord, Orc, High Elf & more. Each race actually has a fairly big impact on the stats that the character will have (such as Imperials having a higher stat in heavy armor). Once the player creates their character, they immediately find themselves inside of a jail cell located within the Imperial Prison where they are asked to accompany Emperor Uriel Septim on their escape from the Imperial City as they try to flee from assassins who have murdered the emperor's three sons and are now after him. The lack of an heir for Uriel Septim has broken an old covenant—the barrier to Oblivion: a dangerous realm that is located within another dimension. It’s up to the unnamed hero to find the last known heir to the Septim family & close all of the oblivion gates, saving all of Cyrodiil & Tamriel in the process.

The gameplay in this game is very similar to a lot of open world RPGs, however, Bethesda does things a lot differently with their games. The most unique aspect within the Elder Scrolls games comes in the form of the player character leveling up by improving their skills rather than acquiring XP from killing enemies or completing quests. Skills can be improved by completing various tasks related to that specific skill (such as leveling up the Blade skill by attacking enemies with blade weapons or the Heavy Armor skill by getting attacked while wearing heavy armor). Leveling up allows you to distribute points into various stats such as strength which increases the damage you deal or even how much carry weight you have. All of the skills & stats fall under one of three categories: combat, magic & stealth. This being a remaster it’s probably the best way to experience this game today as the graphics have been vastly improved along with some quality of life improvements such as the addition of a sprint mechanic& improved combat mechanics.

Finally, with regards to the achievements in this game: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered includes a total of 60 achievements for a total of 1000 GS. All of the achievements here are very straightforward as they revolve completing various quests within the main story, completing the various faction questlines & completing the Shivering Isles DLC. There are really only two missable achievements within this game which are related to the Shivering Isles DLC: Duke Mania & Duke Dementia. Both of these achievements are tied to the same quest where you have to choose one or the other so it's important to save prior to selecting which path you want to take. With that being said, even though this is a fairly straightforward completion, it may take as little as 30 hours, but it can also take upwards of 100 hours depending on how much of the side content you complete & how much exploring you do.
