✨ Rajma Chawal ✨
I've grown up in a Punjabi household, got married into one and food is our one true love! Rajma Chawal is a staple Punjabi dish and I've relished this bowl of comfort all through my life.
With this recipe, we kick off our homestyle Punjabi food series. Stay tuned for more recipes like this one that will remind of you of the authenticity of a wholesome, homecooked Punjabi meal.
Recipe-
1. Wish 1 cup Rajma 2-3 times & then soak it overnight.
2. Heat 2 tbsp ghee & add 1 tbsp jeera & 2 bay leaf.
3. Add 2 tbsp crushed ginger garlic & 2-3 chopped onions. Sauté until golden brown & then add salt to taste, 2 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder, 1 tbsp jeera powder & sauté well on low heat.
4. Then add 3-4 finely chopped tomatoes or tomato purée & let that cook until the masala is well done & leaves the oil from the side. Add 1 tbsp degi red chilli powder & mix.
5. Now add the Rajma without the water & sauté for a couple of minutes.
6. Then add the water in which the Rajma was soaked bring it to a boil & then put the lid of the pressure cooker on & let that cook until done.
7. Once done, add 1 tsp garam masala & 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves & let is cook on low heat for 4-5 minutes.
8. Use a madhani to lightly mix it & serve it with rice.
Jeera Pyaaz Rice :
- 1 Cup Long Grain Rice
- 1.5 tbsp ghee
- 1 tbsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 small sliced onions
- 2 Cups Water
🌶 Soak the Rajma overnight and don't throw away the water. It is very nutritious and you can use it to cook your Rajma in it.
🌶 For the best taste, use Kashmiri Red Rajma or Chitra Rajma.
🌶 The water while cooking the Rajma has to be almost double of the quantity of the Rajma. The amount of water & the cooking time depends on the quality of the Rajma.
