Steps I've Taken for a Sustainable Life
Heyya, folks! So this is probably gonna be a part 1 video actually. I only realized whilst editing that I spoke mostly about the items I've brought into my little sphere that help me live how I want, but not so much about the behavioral adaptations I've made. There is a LOT more to living a more sustainable lifestyle that collecting or buying items. :)
Here's everything I've mentioned, in order, with online resources to find them and whether or not they come packaged in plastic (to the best of my memory):
- AllBirds Wool Runners, came packaged in recycled cardboard with 2 plastic straps and shipping labels to keep the box together
https://www.allbirds.com/
- Canvas bags, the Forever21 bag came with a plastic tag fastener. These are easily found at local natural grocers, craft stores, and handmade markets if you're feeling extra saucy.
- Eco Bags reusable produce bags. I bought these at a store and they came with a twine tie and recycled cardboard tags. These are easily hand made out of old t-shirts and sheets, but you can find this specific brand linked below.

- Reusable jars and bottles for bulk items. Save glass jars from purchased food, but you can buy canning jars at most grocers and you can find reusable glass bottles at craft stores or natural food stores, and thrift stores as well.
- RADIUS Natural Silk Floss. I don't recommend this simply because it still comes packaged in plastic. The floss itself is amazing though if you don't mind flossing with actual silk fibers or the plastic container.

- Homemade laundry detergent and fabric softener. Both of these babies are in upcycled glass container and are pretty easy to make. You can find the recipe I used for the detergent linked below.

- Bamboo ear picks. I picked these up at Daiso, they came in plastic film, and one has a synthetic fiber string on it. I do not recommend these if you have the yellow-y, shiny, wet earwax since they're not as effective as cotton buds (FIGHT ME, DOCTORS!. You can find these at most East Asian grocers.
- Brooks natural bristle dish brush and replacement head. Barcode sticker in store. I can't vouch for how they'll come packaged if ordered online.

- Senzacare bamboo toothbrush. This came with recyclable recycled paper packaging and a cornstarch wrapper (biodegradable and compostable).
https://www.senzabamboo.com/collections/eco-toothbrushes
- Frau Fowler Highland Licorice tooth powder. The aluminum tin is reusable and recyclable, however this did come with a small plastic-wrap seal.
https://fraufowler.com/licorice-mint-toothpowder/
- Merkur Long Handle Safety Razor and Astra blades. Both the Astra blades and razor had plastic components to their packaging, however the non-recyclable waste generated by this compared to an average razor is literally pounds less over a lifetime.

https://www.westcoastshaving.com/products/astra-superior-platinum-double-edge-razor-blades
- Diva Cup and cloth Lotus Pads. Both of these had plastic components in their packaging, but, much like the safety razor, the amount of waste prevented by using these far outweighs that which they initially created.

- Bulk French Green Clay, bulk Golden Jojoba Oil, and Sweet Almond Oil.
- Camamu Argan Horsetail Shampoo. This did come in a weird wrap which I'm pretty sure was plastic-based. Shampoo bars are becoming more common-place and these can be found at natural grocers, camping shops, and from Etsy.
https://camamusoap.com/collections/shampoo
- Vitamin D Drops. Plastic cap, dropper, and label.
- Botanical Aesthetics Hydrating Body Spray. Plastic sprayer and cap. Unfortunately, no online store.
- Quiet About factory seconds candles. Came with plastic packing tape and bubble wrap with cardboard box and potato starch packing peanuts.

- Camelback 1L Eddy. Is plastic, probably packaged with plastic ( I can't remember).
