1974 Santa Fe Fort Worth Passenger Station - Engine Service Moving in the Yard and Coupling.

Amtrak's "Texas Chief" arriving Santa Fe Fort Worth passenger station circa 1974. EMD E8A -B-A sets were not uncommon at that time. Locomotives were uncoupled from the train while in the station and moved to diesel service and back to the train.
Note the second instance on a different day. If you look closely at the very first opportunity, you will see the brakeman in the green jacket wearing the yellow cap. Watch carefully as he signals "one car length" by the rapid, downward stroke of his arm. The days of hand signals are over as handheld radios are widely used now.
