What did the Allies use instead of the Enigma?

The story of how the Enigma machine was broken is famous across the world. What is less well known is how the Americans and the British were keeping their communications secure.
This video discusses two machines, the ECM Mark II and the TypeX, both of which were resistant to cryptanalysis during their time of operation.
