3 Red Flags When Looking For A Therapist

When looking for a therapist, watch out for these red flags:

🚩 You feel uncomfortable sitting with them — trust that signal.
🚩 They can’t explain how they work, or get defensive when you ask.
🚩 They claim expertise in too many areas — couples work, trauma, eating disorders, adolescent therapy all require serious specialized training.

A therapist doesn’t need to be perfect. But you should feel respected, understood, and safe sitting with them.

And it’s okay to ask questions:
• How do you work?
• What experience do you have with concerns like mine?
• What does therapy with you typically look like?

You’re not being difficult by asking. You’re making an informed decision about someone you’ll be sharing vulnerable parts of your life with.

Good therapy can be deeply healing — but the right fit matters.
