On Saturday 30 May 2026 police discovered two men of Mozambican nationality, one of whom had allegedly been assaulted and the other who had been declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Amid this violence, police were once again called out to the New Rest informal settlement on Sunday 31 May 2026 where the remains of a male teenager were found. He had sustained stab wounds to the chest and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics at 3:19 AM.

He was identified as Nhlamulo Sambo and the question haunting his case is whether it was self defence or anti-migrant sentiment that led to his death?
