Your Guide To a Good EQ!?
Ever felt lost when EQing your tracks? In this video, James will walk you through the entire frequency spectrum so you can finally understand what’s happening in your mix and how to fix it.
We’ll explore every range of the spectrum, starting with the sub bass (20–60Hz) that gives you that chest-thumping feel, through the bass (60–250Hz) that carries the power and weight of your music, and into the low mids (250–500Hz) where warmth, tone, and muddiness often live. From there we’ll look at the midrange (500Hz–2kHz) where clarity and character sit, the upper mids (2kHz–4kHz) that shape attack and vocal sensitivity, the presence range (4kHz–6kHz) that adds bite and definition, and finally the brilliance band (6kHz–20kHz) that brings shimmer, sparkle, and air to your mix.
Along the way, we’ll listen to real examples, solo frequency bands, and share mixing tips to help you avoid muddiness, balance instruments, and bring out clarity.
