High up at 5,100m in Xizang! China-made hydrogen-powered drone completes test flight on plateaus

China has successfully completed a high-altitude test campaign in high altitude Xizang with its X10 hydrogen-powered rotary-wing UAV, developed by a Shenyang-based drone manufacturer.

The test flight was conducted at altitudes ranging from 4,000 to 5,500 meters, where real-time temperatures dropped below -20°C and the oxygen content was only 60–70% of that at sea level.

Amid gale-force winds and turbulent air currents, the X10 responded smoothly to commands including takeoff, hovering, and cruising.

Its self-developed battery system can operate stably in temperatures as low as -45°C.

A 3-to-5-minute hydrogen refueling supports a 9-hour endurance.

This hydrogen-powered UAV has already completed field tests in various geographic and weather conditions across Xizang, Xinjiang, Sichuan, and other regions.

The test flight demonstrates China's growing capability in hydrogen-powered UAV technology, especially for extreme environments.
