Designing Netflix’s Black Rabbit: Inside the Three-Level Restaurant Set with Alex DiGerlando

Production Designer Alex DiGerlando joins Decorating Pages to talk about designing Netflix’s Black Rabbit, including the massive, layered restaurant set at the center of the series.
In this interview, Alex breaks down the design of the Black Rabbit restaurant, a textured, three-level New York space built to feel like it had existed long before the story began. He talks about creating a restaurant that pulls the audience out of the chaos of the city and into a warm, moody, fireside tavern atmosphere filled with history, texture, and character.
Alex discusses working with Set Decorator Lydia Marks, using virtual walkthroughs and 3D renderings, designing a stacked set, creating the VIP room, Jude Law’s character’s office, the old glass room dividers, high-gloss tin ceilings, layered wallpaper, and the visual contrast between finished and unfinished spaces.
We also get into how the design reflects the two brothers at the center of Black Rabbit — one polished on the outside, one visibly falling apart — and how those ideas are built into the walls, furniture, textures, and sight lines of the set.
