Has The Market for Postcards Tanked? - Antiques with Gary Stover

5 years ago my guest on the show was Carl Weber, who is the most knowledgeable dealer in ephemera that I have ever met. We discussed his postcard collection, and I commented that I thought that a person who devoted himself or herself to dealing exclusively in postcards could earn $35-40,000/year. Specifically, I said that if you paid about $.30-35 per card on average buying pre-chrome cards in bulk, and then sold the cards individually on ebay, so could make that sum after paying all acquistion & selling costs. A couple of weeks ago Carl told me that the market for postcards had collapsed. It's news to me. But if that what Carl thinks, it's certainly worth my time to try to find out if it's true. So, that's what I'm going to do over the next few weeks--devote a lot of my time to selling the 500+ cards I now have in inventory using ebay, and then doing the calculation based on the number of hours I expend. In this week's show I'll show you how I'm getting started and how I think the cards should be valued & then marketed. If you missed that earlier show on postcards, it's in the Videos section.
