Module 4 - Lecture 5: Building Internal AI Policies and Governance | AI Fundamentals for Leaders
Module 4 - Lecture 5: Building Internal AI Policies and Governance | AI Fundamentals for Leaders
This is the Module 4 capstone — turning everything we've covered on risk, legal, regulation and ethics into something practical: an AI governance framework you can actually implement. We use a four-pillar model (Policies, Processes, People, Technology), a phased rollout approach (Foundation, Structure, Maturity), and five practical tips for building governance that enables AI adoption rather than blocking it.
Module 4: Risk, Security, Ethics, and Legal — Lecture 5 of 5
Timestamps:
0:00 Why governance matters: risk, enablement, trust
1:00 Pillars 1-2 — policies and processes
5:30 Pillars 3-4 — people and technology
9:30 A three-phase implementation approach
11:30 Five practical tips
Key Insights:
✅ Good AI governance enables faster adoption, not slower — clarity speeds things up, ambiguity slows them down
✅ The four pillars are policies (documented rules), processes (how policies actually run), people (ownership and skills), and technology (the infrastructure that supports both)
✅ Key policies you need: acceptable use, data classification, AI procurement, AI development guidelines, incident response
✅ Every "no" in governance should come with a "here's what you can do instead" — purely restrictive governance gets circumvented
✅ AI governance isn't a one-time project — it's an ongoing capability that evolves with regulations, risks, and your own ambitions
