This entire industry disappeared almost overnight 😭 #musicindustry
Entire industries are changing fast — but this isn’t a new phenomenon.
The music industry is a clear example — from vinyl to CDs, radio to streaming, and how musical artists connect with their fans.
Change is constant, and we see it across all sectors — Hollywood and film/movies (remember Blockbuster?), how we take and share photos (Kodak), the auto industry (emergence of electric vehicles, direct to consumer sales), advertising (the fading impact of billboards, magazines, television commercials), the airline/travel industry (remember how common travel agents were?)
And with A.I. — much of this change will likely accelerate.
But it’s easy to overlook sectors that have been slow to change — that have enjoyed the “luxury” of legacy practices, traditional business models, and the steady hand of the status quo for longer than many others…
Think 👉 real estate and mortgages 👀
This happens to be host @Ashley Smith’s (@ashleysmithnow) background — and in this episode of Canada Now, she chats with Jeff King, CEO of Greater Vancouver REALTORS (he also happened to serve as COO for music licensing body SOCAN in a previous life).
In this conversation they chat about the future of the real estate industry, but also how entire sectors should be thinking about change — how to disrupt yourself and innovate.
No one wants to end up like Blockbuster — or CD retailer Music World.
But for real though… who remembers buying CDs the week they came out? Or spending the weekend hanging out at the mall? 💁♀️ It was quite a time for those of us in the elder millennial and Gen X cohort. 😎😎😎
