The African Lungfish can survive 4 years buried in dried mud inside a mucus cocoon — and it actually drowns in water. 🔬 This 400-million-year-old creature shares ancestry with the first land animals.

When rivers vanish, the lungfish burrows into the riverbed, seals itself in a living mucus shell, and shuts down — slowly digesting its own muscle tissue to protect vital organs. When the rain finally returns, it wakes up like nothing happened.

This is one of evolution's most extreme survival stories — and this animal may be closer to your ancestor than any fish alive today.
