Queens of the Stone Age are one of the most exciting and successful rock bands of the 21st century, thanks to their unique blend of heavy metal and melodic grooves. If you want to learn what almost no one knows about them, then go with the flow and keep watching.

Before Queens of the Stone Age took their place among modern rock royalty, there was Kyuss . Named for a character from Dungeons and Dragons, the group came together in 1990 under the direction of singer John Garcia. They rose to the top of the early 90s "stoner rock" or "desert rock" scene, playing parties and small gigs in the often remote towns that dot the desert areas of Southern California. They built up a small but loyal following and released four albums by 1995.

But then Kyuss dissolved, owing to increasing creative tensions between Garcia and the band's guitarist, Josh Homme. After the split, Homme toured with Seattle grunge band Screaming Trees and then aimed to put together an all-star group of 90s rock heavyweights. After recruiting Matt Cameron of Soundgarden, Mike Johnson of Dinosaur Jr., Van Conner of the Screaming Trees, and later Kyuss guitarist Nick Oliveri , the first iteration of Queens of the Stone Age was born.
