Did You Know?

Did you know this channel, The Vinyl Restoration Project, is more than just a channel providing examples of our raw, partially restored, or fully restored audio samples from our archives of some of the best sound engineered legacy recording albums from an analog era long since gone but that we now have our own studio business, LegacyVMP Studio (www.legacyvmp.com), where we intend to help this legacy LP mastered sound 'live again'? So important. Read on to find out more and see how you can help! Thank you!

To quote the opening lyric from Wilson Pickett's, "Sweet Soul Music",..."Do you like good music?"? And do you care about the sound quality of this 'good music', the music that we now lovingly refer to as our treasured legacy recordings from an era of music production long since gone? Legacy recordings like the one just cited or cited in this video you are listening to now or "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King or "Yesterday" by The Beatles, "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" by Frankie Valli or "Sitting On the Dock Of the Bay" by Otis Redding, "Baby I Need Your Loving" by The Four Tops or Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson", "Rhythm of the Rain" by The Cascades or finally, "Georgia On My Mind" by Ray Charles.

And finally, are you also aware that so many of our pioneer audio engineers, producers, artists, along with the entire initial production process team from the studios-to-the-pressing plants, of these beloved classics and thousands more just like them also cared about sound quality? In fact, they cared about it so much that when they went out of their way to produce a sound that was especially crafted just for the vinyl medium, working so hard to 'getting it just right', oft times they would end up eclipsing the sound quality of the actual two-track production master tape from whence it came! Three words: 'See Lanky Linstrot' ( https://youtu.be/rcm4T3KnQfI)

So what does this mean and how is it important to you and me as consumers of the digital forms of these treasured classics?

LegacyVMP Studio is a studio that is specially engineered and equipped to produce this sound again. In fact, we are all about preserving and promoting this sound, a sound we lovingly refer to as the Legacy LP Mastered Sound here at the studio, and we intend to let it 'live again!'.

How do we do that?

By first, leveraging and utilizing technology which now affords us, not only the ability to retrieve this sound in a professional manner from an alternative source such as vinyl (say what?), but also to delicately prepare, process, package and provide it, now 'neatly packaged' into very convenient and very high end digital HFE (high fidelity engineered) audio files, in the form of services, to our incredible mastering studios.

What will they do with them (digital HFE audio files)?

Three things: 1.) use them for their own purposes, for example, to assist with their very own legacy recordings digital conversion and/or rework projects by incorporating them in creative ways, as they only know how, into their current processes for these audio projects; and/or, 2.) further prepare and present them as a 'standalone marketable sound' to be entered directly into the digital legacy audio supply channels i.e. streaming, digital broad/podcast, download or even repress new vinyl (oh my!); and/or 3.) prepare them to become the new alternative 'master' file where no other viable options/alternatives exists, for example, all tape and safety masters and/or multitrack session tapes/stems no longer are applicable for whatever reason i.e. time degradation of source material rendering them no longer usable, natural disaster caused destruction, etc.

And so we are beyond 'stoked' and beyond excited (and proud!) to now be able to 'serve-up' to and support, our incredible mastering studios by acting in a partnership role with them. The end result? We as consumers will benefit and so will the legacy audio industry as a whole.

“This little studio can produce it and now the big studios are able to use it.”
