The Umananda Temple was built in 1694 AD by Borphukan Garhganya Handique on the order of the King Gadadhar Singha who was one of the strongest rulers of Ahom dynasty. A devastating earthquake destroyed the original temple in 1897 and was later rebuilt by a rich merchant who was a devotee of Lord Shiva.

उमानंद देवलोई एक शिव मंदिर है जो ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी के मध्य में उमानंद द्वीप में स्थित है जो कामरूप के उपायुक्त या गुवाहाटी में कचहरी घाट के कार्यालय के सामने है। यह दुनिया में सबसे छोटे बसे हुए नदी द्वीप के रूप में जाना जाता है। ब्रह्मपुत्र के तट पर उपलब्ध देशी नौकाएँ आगंतुकों को द्वीप पर ले जाती हैं। 
The great Shiva temple situated on a hillock in the middle of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati attracts devotees from all over the country, especially during the 'Shivaratri' festival. The hillock is accessible by country boats and is called Bhasmachal (Peacock Island), where Shiva is believed to have turned Kamdev, the God of Love, to ashes for disturbing his meditation. Regular ferry services are available to this place.

Ferry Timings: 7 AM - 4.30 PM

Ferry Cost: Rs. 20 per person
