Compilation Error In NCRB Report Projects Goa In Bad Light: Goa PoliceThe recently released 72nd edition of the Crime in India 2024 report by the National Crime Records Bureau sparked concern after showing Goa with the highest rape rate among all 28 states.

According to the report, Goa recorded a rape rate of 13.3 per one lakh population, placing the state at the top of the list nationally. However, the Goa Police have clarified that the state was projected negatively due to an alleged error by the NCRB in the compilation and tabulation of the data.
Police officials stated that the figures do not accurately reflect the ground reality and have sought necessary clarification regarding the published statistics.
Despite the controversy over the rape data, the report also highlighted that Goa continues to maintain a comparatively low overall crime footprint. The state’s total crime rate stands at 208.0 crimes per one lakh population, which is significantly lower than the national average of 418.9.
